THE PERSON
• will have a passion for living and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ
• will be an ordained Anglican priest
• will be evangelical and enthusiastic to embrace a wide spectrum of churchmanship
• will be committed to working as part of a staff team of clergy and laity
• will teach the Christian faith clearly and apply the Bible intelligently and sensitively
• will lead both traditional and informal styles of worship with skill and sensitivity
• will have a proven track record of effective ministry
• will be supportive of both men and women in ordained ministry
• will be happy to work with those from traditions outside the Church of England
• will be able to satisfy Diocesan and Parochial Child Protection Policies (enhanced CRB disclosure is
required)
• will be able to make a realistic commitment to a five year appointment
• will respect boundaries and maintain high standards of confidentiality
• will take proper care of him/herself and his/her family through adequate time for rest, recreation, and family life (or, as appropriate, with friends)
• will maintain his/her own spiritual growth, particularly by giving time to prayer and the study of the Bible
• will engage heart and mind through reading and study
• will develop ministry skills through regular training
• will ideally have well-developed computer skills
THE TASK
• to set an example of life as a disciple of Jesus Christ
• to share with the Rector in the leadership of the parish
• to lead and preach at Sunday and weekday services
• to share in the ministry of baptisms, weddings and funerals with other staff
• to offer pastoral care within the congregation and wider community
• to play a full role in lay mobilisation and training
• to develop opportunities for evangelism in the wider community
• to play a full part in the life of the deanery and in the ecumenical activity of Christians Together in the Newbury Area
• to undertake other areas of ministry according to gifting and by agreement with the Rector
CONDITIONS
• in line with standard diocesan procedure, the licence will be for a renewable period of five years
• accommodation to vicarage standard will be provided, including a study
• the office facilities will be available within the church office
• the stipend will be that of an incumbent within the diocese of Oxford
• working expenses will be fully reimbursed by the PCC
• standard holiday and days off will apply
• the PCC will meet the reasonable costs of an annual retreat and appropriate training events
