It was announced on Sunday 31st January that the Bishop of Coventry has appointed David Stone to be the next Canon Residentiary and Precentor of Coventry Cathedral.
After seven and a half years as Team Rector of Newbury, David will be moving to begin work in Coventry in June, though his formal installation in Coventry Cathedral will not take place until September 5th. His final Sunday in Newbury is likely to be May 16th.
In the announcement made in all the churches of the Newbury Team, David said, "Buff, Timothy, Alastair and I have very much enjoyed our time in Newbury and will be sorry to leave the delights of this part of the world. But we sense that this is the right time to be moving on and believe that God has clearly led us to take on this fresh challenge and exciting opportunity. Please pray for us as a family - as we shall pray for you in the unfolding adventure of all that God has for you in the future."
The Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, said, "David Stone's wide experience and abilities will be a great gift to all those who experience the ministry of Coventry Cathedral, day by day or for great and magnificent occasions. He is a reconciler, communicator and teacher with a keen interest in developing worship that reflects the richness of our traditions as well as the realities of life in the twenty-first century. I am looking forward to welcoming him and his family to our cathedral, city and diocese."
