FROM SUNDAY 2 DECEMBER 2007

ADVENT

1. Begin by reading Matthew 24:36-44 together.

2. Do you agree that the return of Christ is 'a somewhat difficult item to have to include in a list of the things which Christians believe'? Why?

3. What do you think we would lose if we decided to abandon the belief that Jesus will return?

4. Read Matthew 24:36-44. What is the main point that Jesus is teaching about his return in these verses?

5. What exactly do you think it means for us to 'keep watch' (verse 42) and 'be ready' (verse 44)? In what ways are the lives of those who keep watch and are ready different?

6. What experience do you have of people trying to work out exactly when Jesus will return? Why do you think people do this despite what Jesus says here?

7. Now have a look at Romans 13:8-14. How does what Paul says here relate to the second coming of Christ?

8. What do you think Paul means by instructing his readers to 'clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ'? How can we do this?

9. Are you looking forward to the return of Christ?
