Jesus
was born in Bethlehem about 2000 years ago. His home was very ordinary,
his schooling and occupation were uneventful. At the age of about
thirty he began to travel around his own country teaching, healing and
proclaiming the news that the living God cares for his people. He
called a band of twelve ordinary men to be his helpers. He had no
money, he wrote no books, he commanded no army, he wielded no political
power. After three years he was executed by being nailed to a cross. Today
over nine hundred million people throughout the world worship this
Jesus as the Son of God. Experience has convinced them that he is
alive, that the New Testament writers were recording the truth when
they claimed that he rose from the dead three days after his
crucifixion - and that he can be known by all of us as our Friend,
Saviour and Lord today. Ours is a
confusing and troubled world. When we reflect on the meaning and
purpose of life, we inevitably ask whether there is an ultimate
purpose, a goal, a Mind behind it all. Is there a God? Is God a force,
a power, even personal? If so, how can we know? Christians
believe that Jesus is the human face of God. It´s in Jesus that we
discover what God is like. Through Jesus we find God to be a loving,
caring Father. This is what brings us together as a Christian community
here at St Nicolas. Under the overall heading of Sharing the Life of Jesus Today there are four statements which guide who we are and what we do as a church: + Loving God + Involving everyone + Finding faith + Enabling growth If you'd like to know more, please get in touch or come and see us. |
