CHURCH SERVICES

In its broadest sense, everything we do can be regarded as worship - responding to God's love and relating to him wherever we are and whatever we're doing. However, we do set aside certain times especially to worship God. This may be on our own, perhaps reading or praying quietly, or in a small group in someone's home, meeting to study the Bible, to pray and to praise God. Or it may be in the church building, meeting with a larger group for a service. At St Nicolas we have several services every Sunday and some in the week as well as numerous small groups who meet together.

SUNDAYS

The regular Sunday services at St Nicolas are as follows:

8:00
am

Holy Communion

Sunday worship at St Nicolas begins with this quiet and traditional celebration of Holy Communion. On the 1st Sunday of each month we use the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

9:15
am

Holy Communion or Morning Prayer

Of our two main morning services, this one has a more traditional feel to it, with worship led by robed ministers and choir, together with the organ and other instruments. It is a celebration of Holy Communion, apart from (usually) the fourth Sunday of each month, when it is a service of Morning Prayer.

11:00
am

Informal Morning Worship

This service is more informal and contemporary in flavour, with a blend of music, prayers and a talk intended for a more relaxed gathering. Special activities for children and teenagers run on all but the first Sunday of each month during term time. At others times we have family worship for all ages.

6:00
pm

Evensong or Holy Communion

This service is usually Evensong, except for the 4th Sunday of the month, when we celebrate Holy Communion

6:30 pm

Informal Evening Worship

This informal service with a blend of modern worship songs, teaching from the Bible and prayer is held in the church hall. Holy Communion is celebrated once a month.

MIDWEEK
The church is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays for anyone to come and be still and pray. A service of Holy Communion is held on Thursdays at 10:30 am.

SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
There are many teams who support these services in many different ways, including the musicians and choir, bellringers, flower-arrangers, sound-desk operators, sidesmen, the drama team and many, many others. There is also a Support and Development Team for Worship, whose job it is to support all these teams, to think carefully about the direction of worship at St Nicolas and encourage everyone involved to develop their gifts and to build up the church.
